Boat Repairing Using Epoxy Adhesives

Boat repairing is a tedious task which may require a lot of time and energy if the right repairing adhesive is not used. Mostly repair work in boats is concerned with leakage, cracks or bonding pipes. Epoxy or polyepoxide is a polymer formed by mixing an epoxide resin with a hardener. The ratio in which the resin and hardener are mixed is different for different manufacturers. Epoxy adhesives are considered to be the most efficient means of repairing leaks and cracks. They not only seal the leakage, but also provide a tutelary coating for preventing further damage thereby restoring the strength of the material.

Various epoxy adhesive compounds are available in the market. One such compound is the Marine Tex® Epoxy compound. It is a product of the ITW Polymer Technologies. It is a high strength repair compound designed for rebuilding, bonding, filling and sealing wood, ceramics, aluminum, fiberglass and other such materials.

Epoxy adhesives find use in fixing almost anything from surfboards to damaged frame of a boat. Joining PVC pipes, repairing a leaky deck and making underwater repairs are certain painstaking tasks which are simplified by using epoxy adhesives. They can be utilized in patching a leaky fuel tank or a leakage prone rivet. Epoxy adhesives find use in many boat and home repairs.
